We did the Supertrapp 8 and 6 disks (one hp loss going to 6 from 8 disks for most of the powerband with only 1/2 hp lost at peak), white spacer, changed the main jet up one from 145 to 150 and tweaked the pilot setting. Bike runs great, more power, very little decel popping or backfires, none on shutdown. In fact it seems a tad rich so I drilled a couple of holes in the air box cover... Worked even better. Then pulled the air box cover off leaving the Savage side cover in place over where the air box cover was. Wow, removing the air box cover really helps! It has been too windy today to test power with a stop watch and I didn't think to try this while on the dyno, but seat of the pants dyno tells me it really works.
My question. Has anyone tried this air box cover removal idea long term yet? Is the bike running too lean with it getting that much air, even with the new main jet and the richened needle? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
